Carbon Crisis Effects Us All

Our carbon footprint is increasing in size every year, but what are we doing to stop it? Every year the global economy pumps toxic c02 into our atmosphere, slowly killing our environment. If the earths atmosphere was an air-line, c02 would stack up some serious frequent flyer points. What sort of environment are we leaving behind for our children? We need to step up and take on the challenge of fighting industrial c02 emissions. We should be focussing on Australia, we should be researching greener sources of energy, so that we can live the life we are accustomed to, without eroding the environment. As a society we are now aware of what we’re doing to the environment, we watched Al Gore’s shocking documentary, we’ve seen the chart, but we are still reluctant to change our lavish lifestyle. It really is an inconvenient truth. If we want to be sustainable we desperately need to change the way we think about burning fossil fuel and other pollutants. One day there will be no water, no fuel, no trees and our society would crumble. The drought would worsen and our cattle industry would no longer exist, what would we eat? What would we drink? How would we get from one place to another? These things can be prevented with little things like, walking to the corner shop, switching off unused appliances and investing in solar panels.
C02 is a chemical compound, with two oxygen atoms tightly bonded to a single carbon atom, produced by all animals and humans through respiration. This toxic chemical cocktail is a by product of burning fossil fuels or vegetable matter, and the only known way to absorb this chemical is through photosynthesis. Plants suck carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and turn it into energy for them to grow, and release fresh oxygen. But the increasing rate of deforestation and just the general lack of trees are not only helping in the decline of endangered species, but the increase in global temperature. “Within the decade there will be no more snows of Kilimanjaro” Al Gore stated in his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” Towns will dry up, it’s natural beauty will go un-noticed, our children will only see photographs of snow at Mt.Kilimanjaro because of the amount of c02 that we release into the atmosphere every year. Due to our arrogance and stupidity we have already lost species like the Tasmanian Tiger and we are already starting to lose the Great Barrier Reef. We are already seeing the early effects of global warming, but why aren’t we doing anything about it? Why are we letting the beauty that mother nature intended us to see, go to waste? We could become extinct just like the Tasmanian Tiger. But let’s break the cycle of arrogance and stupidity and stop harming our environment.
