A Day In The Life of A Victim of Bullying.

By Sam Vallance

Melbourne, Australia, a young boy is sitting outside his school crying, his clothes muddy and ripped around the edges. Ben Smith is a 15 year old boy; he is 150 centimetres tall and weighs 68 kilograms. This is his story:

Ben woke up at 7:30. He was woken by his mum rocking him, he begged his mum if he could stay home, afraid of the trouble he would face at school. His mother remained firm and his pleas didn’t change her train of thought. He caught the bus for the 20 minute ride to school, during this time he would face 5 boys, all the same age. They would tease him, throw things at him and poke his belly. When he got to school, his teachers ignored him while the others called him names and hit him. At recess Ben found a place to himself, far off from everyone else. He sat eating his snack, hoping the day would speed up. He sat there thinking about what might happen next. When something fell onto his shoulders and he was ripped back onto the ground, into a pile of mud on the ground. Then a group of boys and girls surrounded him and kicked him while he was down. They shout abuse and laughed at him. They started to spit at him and punch him. “Get off the ground you fat shit!” they yelled at him. He curled into a ball and waited for the vicious beating to stop. Someone grabbed his shirt and started to rip it, his shirt was in shreds and he could feel the wind on him. He held in his tears, knowing the beating would get worse if he cried. When the bell rang they all had a final kick each and stole his locker keys and threw them away. He arrived 20 minutes late to class where the teacher yelled at him, ignoring his excuse and when he told him what the bullies did to him. He takes his seat and tries to copy what’s on the board when he feels a volley of spit balls fly into the back of his neck, he wipes the slimy paper balls off his neck. This time he gets lucky, “Micheal, Jarrod, outside now!” his teacher finally notices something.

Ben wasn’t always bullied. When he was about 14 ½ it started, so not the long ago. Ben’s parents split up when he turned 14, when this happened Ben had to drop all his sport because neither of them could agree on who would get to take him. His mother now worked 3 times harder and seemed to spend more money than time with him, always buying him new game machines and buying McDonalds for tea. Ben spent all his time in front of the computer and eating fatty foods. Ben was a healthy weight when his parents were together. But now he was fat, depressed and the bullies didn’t seem to notice.

When Ben got home that night he went straight to his room and did what he does every night after school, he cried. He cried because this is what he thought his life would always be about, a fat boy getting beaten up every day. He had tried to lose weight, but it was too hard, he couldn’t get anywhere with the bullies laughing at him and beating him. He wondered how many other kids had the same troubles as him, little did he know that there are almost 600,00 kids in Australia who are overweight or obese.

What a story.
I was this kid - bullied every day for being over weight and weird and different. Im now successful and slender and those bullies are fat slobs who dont recognise me.

Living well isnt the best revenge. Living well and smashing it in their faces is!

i found what he did when he got home was interesting
